STEP 45 OXY Oxycell - page 3
Disadvantages
Technology not yet fully developed
CO2 needs disposal (as always)
CO2 needs disposal (as always)
Impact
- Significant increase in efficiency over conventional thermal cycle
- Full CO2 recovery at source
Practically
- Small units are economic and non-polluting, so local generation possible.
- Produces a mix of electricity, hydrogen and mechanical power.
Environmentally
- Non-polluting, minimal CO2, NOx, SOx.
Socially/ Politically
- Such projects could be financed by a Carbon Tax; ideally through a "World Carbon Bank"
- Governments could buy in to such schemes; it's jobs for their industry and a way to be seen to be doing something!
- Clean energy, low cost.
Economically
- Development costs are estimated at $200 million
- A working prototype would cost approx $400 million
