STEP 45 OXY Oxycell - page 3
Disadvantages
Technology not yet fully developed
CO2 needs disposal (as always)

Impact
  • Significant increase in efficiency over conventional thermal cycle
  • Full CO2 recovery at source
Practically
  • Small units are economic and non-polluting, so local generation possible.
  • Produces a mix of electricity, hydrogen and mechanical power.
Environmentally
  • Non-polluting, minimal CO2, NOx, SOx.
Socially/ Politically
  • Such projects could be financed by a Carbon Tax; ideally through a "World Carbon Bank"
  • Governments could buy in to such schemes; it's jobs for their industry and a way to be seen to be doing something!
  • Clean energy, low cost.
Economically
  • Development costs are estimated at $200 million
  • A working prototype would cost approx $400 million
